STAFF

BRUCE SABIAN M.A., LMHC
founder, director, counselor

Bruce is a a regular consultant to public schools and other agencies regarding ADHD, NLD, and Asperger's Disorder. He also works with schools to establish in-house social skills groups.

Prior to establishing the Academy MetroWest practice in 1994, Bruce worked as a therapist at the Academy of Physical and Social Development in Newton, MA . While in that position, he created and directed Camp Nonantum, a therapeutic summer program for children with special needs.

GARY STEINBERG LSW
founder, director, therapist

Gary has been working with children in groups that specialize in improving social skills and self esteem for more then thirty years. He has worked extensively with children dealing with the challenges of ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, Anxiety and Mood Disorders, as well as learning based issues. He has developed and implemented many of the activities and techniques that are used in the Academy MetroWest program.

Prior to establishing the Academy MetroWest practice in 1994, Gary was a group therapist and the program director at the Academy of Physical and Social Development in Newton for more than 20 years.

 

DAVID COHEN, LICSW

David has worked with children and families for over 15 years.  He has worked in a variety of settings including residential treatment,family stabilization and juvenile court.  David has been a school counselor since 2007 and enjoys helping children achieve academic and social success.He has been part of the Academy MetroWest staff since 2002.

STEW PRUSLIN, Ed. M.

Stew brings us a wealth of experience including 13 years as a 3rd grade teacher in North Reading, 7 years as a counselor at the Newton Academy and 18 years of coaching youth basketball in North Reading. He also directs his own cooperative activities program called Group Dynamic. Stew brings a level of creativity and an ability to connect with kids that are both extraordinarily high.

 

Michaela Sparling, LCSW

Michaela joined Academy MetroWest's staff in the Spring of 2011 after earning her MSW from Boston College. During her time in graduate school, Michaela interned with The Newton Partnership and Newton Public Schools as well as with the Pediatrics Department at Massachusetts General Hospital. Michaela is a full time member of our staff. She works with us as a group leader and also conducts initial interviews.

ADAM HURLEY

Adam has been part of the Academy's summer staff since 2005. He currently serves as a staff assistant in our school year program while also working as a teaching assistant in the Wellesley school system.
